Torches

This term we are learning about gadgets and mainly electricity.

This afternoon, Miss O'Neill showed us how to carefully take apart a torch and then put it together again. We learned that a torch has 5 main parts to it. It has a light bulb, switch, battery, conductor and a casing.

Oh...and we also learned that we should ask our parents before we go taking apart torches at home!

Staff at Wairakei School

During term 1, Room 10 investigated the roles of the adults at Wairakei School. We sent emails to some staff and even interviewed Mr Buckner with recordable microphone.

All of the children drew pictures of each staff member at Wairakei School...here is our slideshow (inserting slideshows is new to me...so I apologise for some of the images being cut off...not sure why).

Discovery Time

This morning Room 10 hosted Discovery Time...which is a time for the rest of the Otakaro children to come and participate in some hands on activities (such as playdough, water trough, soccer balls, sandpit, computers, art, doctors and nurses etc).

Miss O'Neill arranged for her own parents to come and help. Mrs O'Neill (Mum) helped with the toast and jam activity, and Mr O'Neill (Dad) helped with the water trough, chalk drawing and blocks activities. We hope they had fun coming to Discovery Time, because we really appreciated their help.

The Nails and Hair Gel corner proved a hit again. Thank you Olivia (Hunter's Mum) for coming in to paint nails and style hair.


Thank you to Paha (Jahkwon's Mum) who came to help also. She supervised the children kicking soccer balls and playing in the sandpit.

Don't forget...the more parents helping at Discovery Time...the more fun it is for the children.

Power of One

Today we had two actors come and perform a show to us. It was called Power of One and it was about 'Bullying'. We learned that standing by and watching someone being bullied is just as bad as being the bully.

Some children were able to help in the show.
Dominic (from Room 9) got to play a Superhero character.

Addition Bingo

A wee while ago we played addition bingo. The children had to partner up, so they could help each other add the numbers when playing bingo. Here are some photo's of these gorgeous children adding...

Maths...

We have been lucky to have Mrs H teaching in our classroom for the last couple of weeks. Mrs H is a student at university and she is learning how to become a teacher. Here she is teaching the SQUARE maths group.

This morning Room 10 went up to the cricket pitch to spend some time with Adam. Adam showed us how to throw the ball. I am pretty good at throwing the ball.
