Jaylee!

We have a new student in Room 10 and her name is Jaylee.  Everyone in Room 10 did a fabulous job at making her feel welcome and showing her the routines at Wairakei School.  We hope she enjoyed her first day here.

Liquid Nitrogen!

We are learning about the changes in matter.  We know that matter comes in the form of solids, liquids or gases.  We also know that matter can change if we add something to it.

Today Miss O'Neill had A LOT of fun using liquid nitrogen to change the properties of some solids and gases.  How awesome!

We also used a banana. When we hit it with a hammer...it shattered! Here is another youtube video where the scientists use liquid nitrogen to make ice-cream! Yum! Unfortunately we didn't make this.

 

Oral Language

Room 10 is very lucky.  We are trialling a new sound system to see if it something that all classrooms should have.  Last Tuesday we had 4 speakers installed and now the teacher wears a microphone...we can hear her really well!  Her microphone helps to keep us focussed and on task.

We also have a hand-held microphone to use when we are speaking to the class.  We used it for sharing our news at Oral Language time.  How exciting!

Class ipad!

Room 10 absolutely loves their new class ipad!  This afternoon we found a partner and completed 11 different maths activities.  One of the activities was to discover the various maths apps on the ipad...what fun!

Today we also welcomed Korbyn to Room 10.  He had an awesome first day in Room 10.

Mr Bojangles Holiday

Wow!  Mr Bojangles has had a fabulous holiday.

Over Easter he went to Wanaka to see the old war aeroplanes at Warbirds Over Wanaka.  He enjoyed watching the planes do twists, turns and somersaults in the air.

He also ate too may Easter eggs!

For the last week he has been learning how to use Room 10's new class ipad!  What great fun he has had using it to learn his spelling words and to add numbers together.  His favourite game is BINGO!

He is already tucked away in bed because he knows it will be a big day tomorrow when he sees all of his friends from Room 10 again.

Science Alive

Last week Science Alive came to visit us at school.  We learnt about the three states of water, floating/sinking, dissolving and heaps more!  Have a look at us working hard!

Yum Yum

Two birthdays today!  A big happy birthday to Oscar and Martina who are 6 today.  They both opened some presents before school today.  Oscar got some police lego, and Martina got some pj's and a pet pillow.  What lucky children!

Oscar's Mum has been busy...she brought in a special cake for Room 10 to share - thanks!  Can you see who is on the top of the cake?

This week we have been learning how to use a ruler.  We learnt to carefully line the ruler up against what we are measuring and to start from the 0.  How clever are we?
